Today’s releases include Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, Dirty Sexy Politics by Meghan McCain and Eating Animals (softcover) by Jonathan Foer. We talked about the new cedar cove book by Debbie Macomber, 1022 Evergreen Place, and the fact that Macomber has 4 more books due before December. The radio discussion then touched upon the publishers’ control of release dates, marketing, artwork, editing, and even the title of the book. The authors have little control of the words after they are written. This year, even the heavyweight authors like John Grisham are having books scheduled for fall (pre-holiday) releases. The publishers seem to be changing the traditional schedules of thrillers in the winter, mysteries in the spring, romances in the summer, etc. September and October are going to be very busy with holiday titles and new releases from authors that normally have yearly books at other times of the year. Stay tuned.
